Unconditional love for shoes

Unconditional love is essential. It's what children need from their parents,
and it's a really important part of my faith.
But what may be appropriate for humans,
may not really apply to shoes.
Sadly, with me,
I love my shoes unconditionally.
It doesn't matter that the fabric is grubby despite many washes,
that the plastic is breaking on top,
and underneath (ouch!).
For me they are still the same shoes I bought in Cath Kidston, Edinburgh, in April 2009,
and they are comfortable,
and I can't buy new shoes whilst on the Challenge of the Utmost Kind,
and I love them.
I nearly threw them away at the end of last summer
and I nearly threw them away at the beginning of this summer
but it seems that this is beyond me.
I have tried to only wear them as rough shoes in the house and garden
but somehow they have still managed to accompany me to la Poste and the boys' school ("Ooh la la, les chaussures sexys!") But I still can't give them up.

I am just like you in this respect...many a time my mum has had to march me into a shoe shop and force me to get new shoes, whilst throwing the ones on my feet into a nearby bin...I get attached and they get comfy. New shoes are always such a pain to wear in.... xxx

I love comfy shoes and although I frequently covet new shoes I see in the shops I hate buying them since I hardly dare wear them in case they are a disappointment which my old comfy ones cannot be!

I know what you mean - I end up wearing the same pair of flip flops for summer, shoes for autumn and boots for winter. Nothing beats comfort!

Same for me as well! Comfort is important ;-)

But what about those georgous floral clogs in the photo? They are so pretty! I know what you mean though about your comfy pair. I wear my shoes until they fall apart. I hate to buy new shoes. I know I need some new ones this summer, but I'm putting it off for as long as I can. Good luck getting through the warm weather with those ones.

Its funny how attatched we get to our old faithfuls isn't it!! I have been devestated at having to finally throw away something completely done for that only coat a few pounds!!!
I have to say I was somewhat jealous!! Despite the state of your shoes they look so comfy!! The only bad symptom of my pregnancy so far is swollen feet that seem to have grown a whole size!!! Comfy shoes are like heaven!!!

Oh it's not just me then. I love hats, and scarves, and have loads, but with shoes I am very much one pair at a time, as once I've broken them in I can't bear to go through it all again. Hubby has to prize them off me before I buy a new pair. Very interesting topic, Floss.

Great post Floss - I always loved the Victoria Wood line for admiring shoes as we get beyond high heels, where we look in the shop window and say "MMM they look comfy!"

I am equally fascinated by the astonishing variety of manhole covers you manage to walk over!

and when you feel they can't possible be worn again, you still don't need to throw them away, plant them up with some pretty sedums or similar alpines.
They do look well loved, lovely shoes.
