Hello!
This cheery little hermit crab is an image I've adored since childhood - it was in a book I had about sea life. I showed it to Ben when we were trying to create some sea life stencils, and Ben came up with this fantastic stencilled version. The stencils were for this:
Son 1 was born when we lived in a tiny little rented flat, and we couldn't 'do up a bedroom' for the baby, so we decided to 'do up' a chest of drawers instead!
I drew the starfish - Ben did all the other stencils. His ability to visualise and then produce things still really freaks me out...
See my little friend on the top of the chest, too? I am also crazy about Ben's sea horses, which I think he based on a metal seahorse hook we owned at the time. I wonder where that went?
The reason I'm thinking back 13 and a half years to all this preparation is that we've just moved Son 1 into a room of his own. He and his brother love their new spaces, although the rest of the house is in chaos as I sort through all the junk that
was in the spare room which is now a bedroom!
Son 1 seems to have inherited his dad's skills:
I found this example of sea life in the sand pit yesterday!

How clever your husband is! And indeed Son 1 as well. That chest of drawers looks really good. Your boys will love having their own rooms I'm sure.

Gosh your hubby and son are very talented! The stencilling on the chest of drawers is wonderful and I bet your son really loves them. I can imagine how delighted they are to have their own space as well.
I love the stenciling on your drawers, I can imagine a whole room decorated around that chest of drawers. I bet your boys are feeling even more grown up now that they have their own rooms.
The teenagers do love their own space and this way it is a bonus for #2 also. Have fun guys.
Clever men in your house! I painted a sea scape on oldest boys walls years ago - I used to go in when he was asleep and paint a new creature (octopus, sea horse, etc) I did them freehand. He would wake to find a new creature on the wall. I think when you enjoy something you do it well - maybe your hubby should do more stencils!
Oh how cute! I love the stencils. When my youngest was little we stenciled her chest of drawers with pink cats (her favorite toy was a stuffed kitty called "Pinky". :) Kit
Oh I love his turtle! So cute. How lovely to have such a creative family to make such wonderful things together. The drawers look amazing and they look like they have just been done up! I hope he wants to keep them even though he's quite grown up now.
I love the stencils thats one thing I have never tried. I remember the day my boys got there own rooms, big boy was not as excited as little man was, go figure.
The chest of drawers is beautiful!
Who knew that turtles lived in sand pits?

How creative - I love the turtle in the sand pit. It'll be a shame when it gets turned into something else, but at least you've photographed it. We've got endless photo's of lego models etc (just in case they get broken!)
That's such a lovely chest. I've had disasterous results trying to stencil recently, so I really admire his handywork.
