... and in fact every day is special, so why are we using a horrible mish-mash of cutlery when we have some good stuff (see below) in the other drawer? asked Ben, very reasonably, last weekend. So I pulled out the good stuff, marked Oneida 80-8, and we started using it, and we liked it, and we tried to work out what on earth its name was, as we'd rather like to add to the collection!

A rather fun-filled few days later and I have been helped by a very good cutlery finding service called Cutlery Search, which has informed me that the cutlery is called Campden, and was first made by Old Hall, which was later taken over by Oneida. Old Hall made iconic stainless steel items in the 1960s, and it seems that our excellent design comes from that period. So we've been storing retro cutlery in a drawer without knowing it, for about a decade!

We intend to buy some more now...

And how lovely to meet a sisterhood of people who can't throw away old shoes! Thanks for all your comments yesterday.

They are lovely, really classic!
So nice to find out that your stuff is retro. I started feeling very old when I found out things that I used when first married are really retro. Yikes! There is a website that you also might like called www.replacements.com
I too have a canteen of good cutlery hidden away and we normally use the odds and ends stuff - mad isn't it?

We finally put our hodgepodge of silverware into our camping kit and started using the "nice" cutlery a year ago. Funny thing is, the nice stuff is pretty average, our old stuff was odds and ends from thrift stores. Silly us, it is good to enjoy and use what we have, otherwise why do we have it?
One thing we dont have is good cutlery and I am sure it is will worth investing in! our current set was £1.50 a box from Ikea!! it does the job but the forks only have 3 prongs which is fine if you like eating cake with the right fork but tricky with everything else. It's on our list of things to watch for in the January sales.
I am in awe of your preperations and making and clearing and doing... I am so behind with all my chores... but I feel a surge of energy building and a need to get ready for snuggly evenings in front of the fire...
