C'est la Rentrée - Resolutions and a Giveaway!

GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED! SORRY!

Here's a little peek at the giveaway, but I'm going to save it for the end of this post! So, in France, the Rentrée ('Back to School') is the time for resolutions - it's a good time for them, being less cold and negative than January.
j
Here's my first resolution:
To join a local craft group - I've really not been crafting much since I was ill this winter, and I'd like to kick-start things and meet local crafters. The Forum des Associations is this weekend and I'll let you know if I've found anything to sign up for!
Second resolution:
To join the local library. In the UK I was a top member, but in French, I'm less of a reader, so I need to motivate myself. Here are the opening times - no excuse now!

Third resolution:
To keep up with the news. Last year's resolution to WATCH the news didn't work, with the inconvenient (to me) timings of French news programmes, so this year I'll be aiming to buy and read the Dépêche du Midi, our regional paper.
Fourth resolution:
To keep cycling, or jogging!
Now for the giveaway - English Roses from France.
I know I've done lots of French-themed giveaways, but this time I've picked up lots of lovely British goodies, so I'm giving them away!
j
First up is a bone china mug.
Then there's Cath Kidston's little book, which is a summary of the excellent Vintage Style, which I now own...
This pretty and fascinating book, which is all about how you don't need a country cottage to have country style,
and a little polka-dot make-up bag.
If you'd like to put the giveaway on your sidebar, linked to this post and entitled 'English Roses from France', I'd be very grateful.
But all you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post. If you would like to tell me one of your resolutions (I know some have made them) I would be fascinated to know about them - last year's resolutions really helped me a lot. But you don't have to to have a resolution to enter. Everyone welcome, all round the world!

Resolutions made this year (we make ours on Christmas Day);
Not to say negative things about myself.
To renovate the house to be more environmentally friendly (as funds allow!).
To sew and knit more (and therefore improve).
Continue to be frugal (careful).
Try to rest/relax more.
I think that is about it!
I will put your giveaway on my sidebar later today (going out now to buy log splitter....so much for being frugal!!)

My resolution is one of your own... CYCLING! My hubby has promised to refurbish my old bike. We have a fabulous biking trail on Cape Cod, and it runs right through my neighborhood (so there are no excuses for me)! lol

What a lovely giveaway! I'll add you to my sidebar! Happy Weekend!

Floss, what a lovely collection you have put together for your giveaway.
Good resolutions. I need to resolve to spend less time online and more time reading. I've also been exercising more at our local YMCA which is a workout facility.

Good luck with all your resolutions.
I have lost a bit of weight and reached my target weight/clothes size, so my resolution is to maintain my weight.
I have given away all my old clothes to make room for new ones in my new size and I really can't afford to have to buy anymore!

I like resolutions at this time of year, I feel more like making them! I think mine is 'to go with the flow' a less structured lifestyle, so that I can be more spontaneous and do what feels fun on the spur of the moment! Your giveaway is lovely - what could be better than a nice cup of tea and a good craft book!

My resolution is to try to go to one dance class a week, yes I feel like a dancing hippo next to some of the slender ballerina types but it's fun, great exercise and I have a wedding dress to buy imminently which I want to feel really special in! I like your library resolution, I've found some gems in mine recently!

What a generous giveaway. My resolutions are to eat less bon bons and finish renovating our bedroom soon.

Think that your library resolution is a good one abd I may have to do the same as the library is a few minutes walk from our house :-)

Bon week-end a toi,

I like that we are both thinking along the same lines, I know I did join in last year as well, but I'd completely forgotten that it had come to that time of the year when I wrote my post the other day. I am going to write a post on how I got on last year and this years... Won't be today though as I'm not feeling the best. Would also love to enter your giveaway please and will also put a linky on my blog.

Yay! I would love to enter! My resolution is to start planning more of our meals. :) PS: I love the look of that little Cath Kidston book!

Another resolution: to join an exercise group close to our home. We actually started up a Craft Club that meets in our home twice a month.

Hello Floss
I have to say I'm not good at resolutions!
But I have told all my friends & family that all the Christmas Presents will be hand made or thrifted this year. I have been making chutney all week to ensure it is mature by Christmas ready for presents. I loved shopping in France for back to School when Mum and Dad had their house, there was always such a great selection of stationary.
I will add your giveaway button to my blog.
Luv Sophie xxx

Hello, what a lovely giveaway! My resolution is to loose weight - I am trying to go on my wii fit for 30 mins 5 times a week! It is not going too bad so far!!

Thats a fantastic bundle of goodies! My main resolution for this year has been to learn to drive and get my license, but i am running out of time, so I think I will have to give myself another year and add it to my "things to do before I turn 30" list.

Hi floss, I don't really make resolutions, I just do things differently from time to time. But I have set myself a challenge to do 101 new things in 1001 days which is on one of the pages on the top bar of my blog. I'm doing pretty well at it too although I probably need to update it a bit!

Sorry I've not had chance to see you while we've been in Castel Sarrasin, the week has just flown and we're off home today! :(

Thanks for the chance to win your lovely goodies!

We live in a small village about an hour and a half south of Toulouse--and I'm envying your library hours. Ours are two hours on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, and two hours on Saturday morning. I do know what you mean about resolutions at this time of year. It's all those shiny new exercise books in SuperU that make you think of turning over new leaves. My resolution is to read more books in French.

What a nice giveaway ! I would be happy to participate.
This year I would like to make the resolution
1) not to procrastinate,
2) to spend a wonderful schoolyear with nice students and end the year thinking that my job is wonderful and I'm glad I'm doing it and I feel useful to young people (like last June, I really had a wonderful year, which I'm really thankful for).
If you could tell me how to put the giveaway in my side bar and link it, I will gladly do it (I already tried with something else and completely failed...)
Bonne rentrée !

What lovely prizes and what a beautiful giveaway! I don't make resolutions, but I must say, I watch "France 24" over here in the UK so someone watches the French news!

My resolution is a simple one. Just to enjoy my life as much as I can, for as long as I have it. Your give-away looks lovely, it is very sweet of you to have one. Thank you. Kit

Hi Floss

I don't really have any specific resolutions - just a desire to do more creative things this year.
I've added your giveaway to my blog, good luck to everyone who enters x

The giveaway looks fantastic!

I'll try the sidebar thing, but not at this time of the night=- you are experiencing the crashing and burning of my New Academic Year's Resolution to tidy the kitchen every night before bed!

What a lovely giveaway and what a lovely idea making resolutions in September I'll have to give it some thought. I'll try and figure out how to add the giveaway to my sidebar when I get a few minutes or maybe I should say hours...

Gorgeous giveaway!
My resolution this year was to say NO more often! I tend to say yes to everything and then run myself ragged trying to keep up

I am not sure they are resolutions but I am trying to be more self sufficient and aiming to slow down and enjoy the simpler things in life... I am also going ot make all my Christmas gifts this year... and pay more attention to things I should be doing for my children, Mr P and myself rather than running myself ragged trying to do everything for everybody else...

My Re-entree resolution is to return my library books on time, and not incur fines, although the ladies in the library are always so kind and say "you've bought another new book for the library". I have managed to return one lot of books well within time and it was noticed and noted by the lovely ladies at our library.

My second resolution is to produce less food waste, so although it is against the vets recommendations anything non fattening goes to the dog, and I am trying to either reuse leftovers, or just cook a bit less!

My resolution this year is not to be so serious and to take life less seriously, it's only life after all! Please add me in to your giveaway, I will add you to my sidebar too, I am so glad to have found your blog, beautiful!

I think what I am aiming for at the moment is - get blog shop sorted and opened. That means I need to spend more time making & less time online!!

I shall add you to my sidebar too :)

I gave a great deal of thought to Resolutions this year and was determined not to have the usual 'give up biting my nails' type of thing. I decided 1) to stop procrastinating and dithering. So far it's going really well (or is it?!) and 2) to stop interrupting people when they're talking, a terrible habit I've had for years. I think I'm improving in this, but I daren't ask anyone! I'd love to be included in your giveaway.

Your giveaway is lovely. I'm catching up on blogging after the wedding weekend and finding all sorts of fun here in blogland.
Resolutions - one of mine is to extend more grace to the people around me. Grace is such a beautiful thing.
And I'm resolving to use up fabric before buying more.

i have the exercise thing down hard core... but i just cant seem to eat right along with it. soooo i have recently resolved to be aware of what i am eating and to eat more natural whole foods. so far so good. but it is really hard to find foods that are not prepared with enriched flour... :( i'm working at it & learning a lil about nutrition labels!!! what a sweet lil group of things for your giveaway. i got this link from brighthaven's blog by the way!

What a lovely giveaway! Can I join in too?
I'm afraid to say I'm not doing very well with the resolutions I made in January. One was to make more time to make things, which I haven't, so I must try harder!

Lovely collection you have put together for your give away. Which I would like to be included in. My year starts this time of the year as I have spent most of my life in some form of education and I have my birthday coming up. As for resolutions I am working on really de-cluttering my house. I have given myself until next spring to do it. I do not have a big house just a lifetime of being a magpie! Also trying to walk more for exercise. Trying to create more time and space for creativity.
