It commemorates the storming of the Bastille prison (a symbol of royal authority) which is considered the beginning of the French Revolution.
We usually celebrate by attending a big, musical, firework display - once on a beach, with the fireworks launched from the forts on either side of the bay, and once in a newly-mowed field.
I'll tell you more about this year's celebrations on Monday!

Happy Bastille Day! I hope you have a wonderful Independence Day, freedom is so, so sweet.
Hope the weather is good for the fireworks. We have been to July 14th fireworks too and they were well worth waiting for darkness to fall for!
