Sud: c'est le Nord!

My title was the banner headline of our regional newspaper this Friday: 'The South - it's the North!' And so it seems at the moment... We woke yesterday with quite thick snow on the ground, and it carried on snowing lightly all day.
In the afternoon we took the dog and our sledges down to the Coulée Verte, where an abandoned farmhouse sits at the top of some good slopes.
We were on our own at first, although the marks in the snow showed that another family had already been sledging there in the morning.
The longer we stayed, the more people joined us. Even though we live in a warm area of France, the Pyrenees are so close that nearly everyone has skiwear and snow equipment. Some teenagers began to build a ramp for their snowboards.Ben and I went skidding and tumbling down the slopes on these little things - the boys have learned to call them 'skeletons' from their 'Mario at the Winter Olympics' game. Lots of screaming and spinning ensued! The boys had their big plastic sledges, and had many races. Raja won every race she joined, but we think she was cheating! When her fur began to clump with snow, I brought her home and threw another snowy log on the fire.I heated up some soup and bread rolls, and when the menfolk returned we celebrated the temporary arrival of The North!

Isn't the snow wonderful!
It must be slightly warmer here today, as our snowman's nose has dropped off! Snow is beginning to melt on the rooftops too! Thanks for the link to the other'challenge' blogs you sent me.That was really kind of you!

I have to admit that I really quite liked messing around in the snow. I know its a real drag for drivers, but even so, everybody seemed to be so happy out playing in the snow.

It's so great to hear of you enjoying the snow. I'm getting a little tired of all the moaning about the weather on this side of La Manche. We may not see snow like this for years so I say let's enjoy it while we can!!!!

Update: Son 1 has hurt his ankle in today's sledging escapade - chipped a bone and torn cartelidge! I'm feeling slightly less excitied about the snow now - but it is melting, and he is perfectly cheery.

We have had lots of fun in the snow here (luckily with no injuries) but Suffolk is a bit flat for decent sledging!
Today we have lots of deep wet slush, really horrid.

Oh my, what a winter wonderland! We had a brief bit of snow that lasted one day, still it was fun. I have been hearing about all the cold weather you have been getting. Looks like you are making the most of it though:)
