Like mother, like daughter

I was having difficulty deciding which scarf to wear today, and this got me thinking about the rather lovely choice in front of me: There is this alpaca one from South America, given to me for Christmas by Ben's brother and his wife - they travel a lot and buy fantastic presents on their journeys. Next to it is a pink and gold pashmina brought back from China by my parents in law, who are late to the travelling game but now enjoying it as much as their eldest son!
Not entirely surprisingly, the scarves which aren't pink, are blue! Karen sent me the floral one as part of our Christmas Stocking swap.I've been wearing a lot of scarves recently as I've been sore around the neck, due to a swollen thyroid gland. This appears to be due to nothing worse than a virus which has infected it, but I shall be glad when the specialist gets it under control... just a few more tests and then she can decide on the right treatment.
My mum gave me the adorable cashmere scarf above. Wearing it is like having a hug.

So, like mother, like daughter? My mother has always been a great one for scarves, although hers have always been more on the elegant side. I did a bit of Google window-shopping ('lèche-vitrines' or 'window licking' in French - so expressive!) and found some vintage scarves which really reminded me of the ones she wore in the '70s. Hope you enjoy them, mum!
The one above is for sale on ecrater.
This is a great one available on American ebay.
I love this one on etsy.
Have you spotted a certain colour scheme yet? This one may be my favourite of all. It's on etsy too.
But the question is, what am I wearing today? Well, I wore the turquoise cashmere to visit the specialist (must look one's best in France) and now I'm back at home I'm wearing the soft pink one, whose tassels you can see above, which my sister gave me this year. Like mother, like daughters..?

Like you I love scarves and have a drawer full of thin ones, thick ones, ones for winter and summer ones. Some of those 70s ones reminded me of ones I used to have - long ago disposed of but obviously now back in fashion!

I was about to suggest the turquoise one when I scrolled down and saw that that was the one you'd chosen! Hope the news from the doctor was good.

A girl can never have too many scarves, right? I love snuggly scarves as well, they just make you feel so much better when you are feeling a little under the weather. I think I could grow quite fond of the soft pink one you showed above.

Ahhhh, a girl after my own heart! I love wearing scarves, of every kind. Having worked in an accessories shop for 12 years, I have a wonderful collection. My grandmother let me raid her scarf collection a couple of months ago and I got some wonderful vintage printed silk ones. They can really make an outfit, and I don't think they ever get the credit they deserve! xxx

I think the french always look very chic in their scarfs. I can not wear them, they give me a headache. Yep I am strange

I wear lots of scarves as well! All through the winter and sometimes in summer as well, depending on what else I'm wearing. Not sure my mother ever wore many but my MIL does :-)

I love them.

Nothing quite like cashmere for warmth and feel-good!

You have some pretty scarves. I rarely wear a scarf and have not worn a turtle neck in many years. Just don't care for all that material around my neck - I know, I'm different. :-) I will wear a heavy one around my neck when it is very cold.

You simply can't fight it! No matter how hard you say you wont you always end up doing/wearing something of your Mother. It's lovely and bewildering sometimes when we think it our free will and then someone reminds us of a similarity.
C'est la vie?

Les écharpes! I love them. But I can't wear wool - cashmere or merino - they all make me itch like crazy.
But there are plenty of scarves in cotton, silk, rayon, etc so that's what I wear.

Your scarves are beautiful, so colourful and snuggly. I hope your virus gets cleared up quickly.

I have to say that I love the cashmere - nothing beats a bit of cashmere! And I do remember that whole French smart thing - I once struggled to get service in Agatha: it was raining and I had tipped up in my ancient Barbour, and the assistants were not at all impressed (I think I might even have been wearing wellies as well)!

Dear Floss
They are all beautiful but I do adore the turquoise cashmere scarf - how light and soft it must be - bliss!
I am popping over to email now to send you a reply to yours...

I'm a scarf addict too - but does anyone know how to clean silk ones without having to resort to the dry cleaners?

Scarves are great for bringing colour up to your face. I wear blue ones a lot which makes the dull blue colour of my eyes more vivid.
Hope you get your medi problem sorted soon. xx

What a beautiful collection of scarves you have. A warm soft hug to remind you of the giver, or a certain time or place. Thank you for your sweet comment too. You are a doll. I'm going to buy my Mom a warm scarf today. Thank you for the idea!

Warmly,
Sheila

mum was and is a great wearer of scarves - but browns & creams & greens with her red hair . Dad gave her silk squares which she folded into a triangle then knotted around her neck. These days she tends to wear longer scarves but she always has something around her neck & would feel undressed without !
