Shining through...

It's mainly rained, here in Edinburgh. But something I heard someone say on the news yesterday clicked with me, and I thought of how our boys (imperfect though they are, as all humans must be) have brough shine to our lives this week.

Son 2 snapped this Sumatran tiger at the zoo yesterday, and the photo at the top is of my Dad with the boys at Dynamic Earth. Ben says: 'It's rather dull here at home, without you all'. So I am thinking about the contrast between shiny and dull, and realising that the hard work of bringing up children can make you forget that they're actually pretty shiny parts of our lives, most of the time!

I also bought a Provencal cloth box, and a National Trust for Scotland tray, in charity shops, as you do...

Well Floss, I'm reading this into the second and thankfully last day of two boys being grounded and a long-running Monopoly game made to be packed away unfinished. You reassure me that maybe boys are just boys! But I'll have to let it sink through the red mist a while!

Yes, as we approach the end of the holidays there have been many groundings here and lots of days of extreme boredom but also some lovely times together and I will be very sad when school starts up again and we lose these lazy days together. This has been the year they both discovered the ability to work (oldest at Mcdonalds and youngest leafleting for local firms)and earn their own money and to be responsible for their own timekeeping so it has been a productive holidays.
