Celebration cake...

Happy Saint Honoratus ' Day! If that sounds like a mouthful, it's easier saying it the French way: 'Bonne fête Honoré'!
Saint Honoré is the patron saint of bakers (and florists) and our baker's was offering a gateau Saint Honoré for the very good price of 9€50 yesterday, if you booked in advance. The baker's shop was full of chattering people queuing up for their Sunday bread and their gateaux, and all his daughters were out the front, along with their mum and other staff - it was great fun to go and buy a cake instead of making Sunday pudding à la anglaise yesterday!

I have noticed that there seems to be a LOT of French celebrations involving cake! What came first, the celebration or the cake?

I would love to have a slice of that delicacy, I'm thinking that there was nothing but crumbs left.

What a lovely looking cake too! It seems there are not enough cake related celebrations in our neck of the woods. I may just have to make up some of my own to fill in!

Oh man, I'm craving sweet things like that to make up for all the worries at work. I already went to Paul and bought the "goûter" for the whole family, and I'm still craving some... this is a very dangerous situation !

I think my family could easily adapt to French living - am sure the cake and celebrations would make up for our limited language skills!

What a lovely idea and a truly scrumptious looking gateau! I do think we need more celebrations in Britain!

Saint-Honorè is a very popular cake in our patisserie (as a birthday cake), but never seen one with strawberries on!

OOoh cake! Yum! Just had a lovely rummage through your blog. Adored your finds at the vide grenier especially the painted enamel.

FAbulous idea about displaying your hexies and doilies and stuff. Very inspired.
