Buttons and Pearls

Yesterday I asked my mum if she had ' just an ordinary button box, not the special ones, just with some plastic buttons we could use for craft...' and ths is what appeared! Even her ordinary box is quite special - I bet button lovers can spot something they'd like in there! I used them on a flower garland as seen on Evie George % and Temps Perdu, but simplified down, thinking that the boys might like to help me with it. However, it seems I have found their limit - they cook, they craft, they thrift, but 11 and 12 year old boys don't use recyled leaflets to make flower garlands! Should have guessed, really - today we went to see Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, which was much more up their street.
I just also wanted to show you this lovely pearl necklace, and its pretty vintage ticking bag, which my mum has passed on to me.
I'm wearing the pearls now and they really are wonderful - the glow that they give to the skin is quite lustrous.

I don't suppose you're surprised that I'm not doing much blog reading and commenting while I'm here, but I am sorry to be missing you - I'll defnitely be watching out for the Pause in Lent posts, and am planning one of my own - thanks very much for all your really helpful and interesting comments.

Hello Floss,

It sounds like you are having a great time. I hope your health is improving as well. The pearl necklace is lovely - pearls are probably my favourite type of jewelry.

Your magazine arrived yesterday and I'm eagerly devouring the pages. It's full of lovely spring touches and inspiration. Just what we need right now. Thanks so much. It will be on my blog tomorrow.

Ah buttons - little round slices of magic, aren't they? There's a green one catching my eye in your picture!!
Funny story about the boys - they clearly have limits! It reminds me of a greeting card they sell in Oxfam, which shows an old sepia photo of a child dressed in all kinds of outragious knitted garments. The caption reads: "My life would be so happy if only my Mother didn't knit!" (or words to that effect!)
Our loved ones are so tolerant of our creative, earth saving ways, aren't they?
It is lovely to have a post from you in Scotland - I'm sure you're having a wonderful time with your parents - enjoy, enjoy!

The pearls are so beautiful, a pearl necklace is such a classic piece of jewellery, which will never go out of fashion. How are you and your mum doing? Thinking of both of you.
Lol, I am quite glad that your sons weren't keen on helping with the flower garland, thank goodness for that, at least now I know that they aren't superhuman kids.

I love pearls, your mum's are beautiful. I had a string left to me by my grandmother and went to have them valued for insurance only to find they were a paste, a very good copy. They still had the original love letter from my grandfather in the box. She must have fallen on hard times, very sad.

Oh Floss, what a feast for the eyes! Yes, I do see a button or two I wouldn't mind squirreling away for myself :)
Pony girl and I are on our own for a few and she has requested that we make apple soup, I shall have to come up with a good recipe that has enough apple taste to it to satisfy her. I love hearing about what your boys have been cooking. I think you are doing quite well to have only now found their flower garland limit, they seem so amenable to so many pursuits.

Enjoy the rest of your trip.

My Mum will only let me near her button box when supervised by a suitable grown up, so that I don't "borrow" any!

Oh the big blue ones on the card and the beige ones at the bottom left. Yep, they look like me. Gosh I love buttons. How can I love them so much? They are like little pieces of art aren't they?

Very nice for you to have the pretty pearls. You are such a pearl kind of girl to me. I think I'd look rediculous in pearls! Oh those flowers you made are so cute. Much easier than using fabric too I bet. Have a great time with your parents. Hope you are feeling a bit more rested.

I love the good sized green one on the upper right - just my style. The flower garlands are great, but I understand boys and their limits!
