Finds and flights

I've had quite a good trawl of Edinburgh's charity shops this week, partly using the Edinburgh Charity Shop map, which is a true treasure map, available on line (and soon to be updated). I've visited Stockbridge, Morningside, Goldenacre, Leith and a tiny bit of the West End! My vintage finds are below: a 1924 American Good Housekeeping book of household hints (including the care of lace), a Portmerion platter to join our collection, a lovely shabby chic mirror, probably Venetian I think, and a host of buttons and threads! As far as Son 2 has been concerned, my main reason for shopping has been to finish off his new collection of the Roman Mysteries, which are gripping adventures for a formerly reluctant young reader. I've had to give phone updates on the collection every night - only two to go!
Make sure you take the time to admire the new duvet cover my sister ordered for our mum from John Lewis - very, very pretty!

So, on to the boring flights. Do comment on my finds, to cheer me up, please! But you might as well know that I am due to fly with British Airways to Gatwick tomorrow morning, and then on to Toulouse with Easy Jet in the afternoon. What do you think my chances are? We're looking into Eurostar at the weekend as an alternative...

How wonderful, I can see gorgeous glass buttons, and magnificent MOP buttons, ooh, and a wooden cotton reel! I love vintage sewing things ( you have probably guessed that by now, lol ).

Now, those books look rather fascinating! I'd read those as well!

Fingers crossed for tomorrow, I hope it all goes well for you, You must miss your family.

Very nice duvet cover. It appears to be a soft powdery blue. Pretty mirror (I collect them as well). Nice bit of buttons to add to your collection when you get home (and you will). Do I spot a unique shaped foam green one in the center? Enjoy the rest of your visit and I hope you can catch a flight between eruptions.

Some lovely finds Floss. I'm still on the lookout for a mirror! Some great buttons and thread - wooden reels, you can't beat them.

Hope you have success with your travel plans and that all goes well.

Lovely finds as usual. You must have some great charity shops there. Hope your Mum is doing better, Floss.
As to travel....well who knows. There are some flying but not many.

Great bargains
Hope you get back to France soon. I keep thinking of that song we sing in church sometimes, with the chorus "We shall rise with a shout WE SHALL FLY!"

What lovely finds you have, I like the buttons best and the sound of the Household Hints book - I bet it's full of useful info. I hope you get back to the family as planned, our main man's stuck out in Singapore - goodness knows when we'll get to see him again!

Sorry to hear your Mum's been having a rough time and I hope she's well on the road to recovery now. Tell her I approve of her Spode collection! Thanks also for your kind thoughts.

Lovely finds. I lived in Edinburgh in 1966, beautiful city.
Hope your travel plans work out but I have a feeling you will be going with the Eurostar alternative.

Well, you're so fortunate to be able to visit such good charity shops there in Edinburgh. Sounds like such fun. The plate, the buttons on the mirror and cotton reel all look beautiful together. Great that your son loves reading. (wish mine were as enthusiastic).
All the best.

Oh dear. Well just make the most of your time with your parents in the meantime. Those books look lovely and I'm sure they will be just the beginning of a wonderful love for books. It's just finding the right ones that click with some children isn't it? Then there are others who will read absolutely anything.

Nice finds, especially those threads. I hear they are so lovely to stitch with.

Your finds are just lovely!
Your previous post reminds me of my grandparents house as well. They had much of the blue and white. I have one Delph piece and did have a platter that sadly broke in my last move. I do have a wonderful washing/commode set that was my great grandmother's in rose and white. What wonderful memories you have stirred for me.

I so hope you are able to fly as planned. Take care.

A trift shop treasure chest! There is no way in Australia, op shopping is the same experience as the UK - Portmerion! I love it...and a Venetian mirror - oh my I am slightly jealous Floss! Sounds like you have covered a bit of ground, eh?
How's your mum?
