Clay

The garage not far from us is excavating a huge hole (for more petrol tanks, presumably). The stratigraphy was great - Son 1 and I spotted the 50cm of soil followed by 50cm of river-pebbles which are the bane of his daddy's gardening life! When Son 2 got there, his eye was caught by something different - he ended up bringing home samples of soil which had rolled outside the safety-fence, and soaking them to find out the clay-content of each one.

The clay from 2 - 5 metres down is apparantly the best.

Can you guess what it is, yet?

A snowman? I love pictures of children playing with mud!

It's either a snowman or a very small cottage loaf...

Hello Floss, I love a mystery. I also love beautiful river rocks and think it's grand that you all found some naturally, rather than having to buy them as I do in New York. (I've just re-aligned my little collection of these polished rock to have some support my new paperwhite bulbs.

Now...what could your clay-appreciating son be creating. Yes, it could be a snow man, but since you all live in France, he might also be creating his own version of a traditional Nativity scene.

Or, he might be up to something totally different. In any case, it's great that he recognized the potential of that clay.

Best wishes.
