Too much of a good thing?

We had a terrible, dry spring. Of course it was wonderful in one way - Summer arrived in April! But the new cistern was nearly empty before the traditional start of the watering season in June...However, we need not have worried - June and July have been rainy throughout!
The garden is growing wonderfully, although the lawn died (the way it always does) and won't come back until October.
The tomatoes (seen here accessorising themselves with a descendant of one of Lululiz's Morning Glories from last year) are going wild.
We have a whole load of these!
But the parasol and swimming pool seem rather redundant.
Of course we've had good days, and some weeks have been better than others, but the overall picture for June and July has been gloomy. It hasn't spoilt our holidays so far, but I was rather relieved to see that next week's forecast indicates a bit of an improvement in August, when we start our staycation and friends come to visit...

Hi Floss! Oh, I do hope you get some sunshine. Your pool looks fun. I like how your garden grows.

As long as you have your friends with you, the weather won't matter.

Your veggie garden seems to be doing well. We have eggplant, started from seed, for the first time this year. I hope our rain and gloom let up or we will never see the fruit of it like your lovely plant. xo

What odd weather the world is experiencing. After a prolonged spring that lingered well into summer, we're enjoying a few sunny warm days now, and I hope they continue. Our garden is waaaaay behind yours. No hint of red on the tomatoes yet. But lots of zucchini!

Wow, your garden is so amazing! Our tomatoes are just wee green things at the moment, it's been a late start to summer 'round here.
Enjoy your staycation!

Climate is weird worldwide this year isn't it? Maybe a lesson to us not to take things for granted and at least your veggies are enjoying it!

We have had a grey dreary time of it here, too - it would be nice to have a sunny August, but I hardly dare hope!

It really isn't the weather you would expect from the south of France, but your crops look as though they have enjoyed the weather. We were so lucky on holiday in Italy as it was hot and sunny, but we drove through torrential rain in France on the way down and the way back. A friend just back from Germany today had rain every day for the past week. Fingers crossed for August!

We were told a few years ago that French weather 'doesn't sulk'. Well he was wrong this year wasn't he? We, too, are looking forward to next week's promised return to summer as we now know it. Your garden looks amazingly productive and very healthy. Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Hey, I have been a regular visitor to your blog for quite some time now! I have to get better at commenting!! Pecans and all nuts in general are quite expensive here - a treat now and then!! I am trying to grow tomatoes - so far mine arent doing too well, not enough water - but today I spotted the first little green tomato so this was good!

Oh dear - there was me thinking that France was having a proper summer and only us Brits were getting wet. I even wore my winter boots to the bbq over the weekend AND slept in a jumper when we camped!!

Here's hoping August brings the summer back! Actually scrap that - lets hope summer starts again tomorrow.

It's been pretty wet over here too. Most of the lower country are in deep snow as of yesterday. It's jolly chilly here today, 3 degrees when I got up. Looks like a cracker day though. I'm sure your hot summer will arrive very soon.

Dear Floss

Here's hoping you have some real summer weather in August!

My daughter and her family are travelling from Burgundy to La Lavandou on Thursday, for their annual holiday - I'm sure there will be sunshine there! The girls will live in the ocean which will be such a treat!

Hello Floss:
You do seem to have had the most extraordinary extremes of weather this year, but you look set for a bumper crop from your vegetable garden. There is nothing quite like a homegrown tomato in our book, although in our gardening days [no longer] we were singularly hopeless in growing anything remotely edible.

We are pleased to have found you via the delightful Helen Tilston and have enjoyed reading through past posts. We have signed up as Followers to stay in touch.

Your vegetables look delicious. Since I arrived in Briitany 10 days ago, we've had two afternoons of sunshine! The advantage is there is none of the stifling heat we had in London!
