Flowery Box Update...

I bought this box with birthday money at Unicorn Antiques in Edinburgh. I loved the fabric covering but had no idea what it was for, or where it had come from...Well, look at what I spotted on many of the shelves of Niki's dream French shop, which she visited on holiday in Dinan. Niki, who has the wonderful blog and shop named Nostalgia at the Stone House, has been helping me to discover more about this type of box. I kid you not, there are stacks and stacks of them on the shelves of that wonderful French shop - have a look for yourselves!

I'll tell you more about them later...

Oh, Floss, it is absolutely gorgeous!! It is so funny, as soon as I saw it I immediately thought of Niki's post about that dream store in Dinan and all the floral boxes!! I do not know if they are french in origin (I think they could also be english...?), but I love them!!! Great buy!!!

Oh I read that post of hers. Isn't that just the most fabulous shop ever?!! Talk about a tale of suspence too! I could feel her disappointment each time it didn't open. So worth the wait though. I would love to visit, but where would you start? Actually probably in the buttons!

Does it look like the size that might have held gloves??...that is what some of them were...or handkerchief boxes or lingerie boxes...I think I spelled those right...things like that. They are always very pretty and there limitless (as you can see) wallpapers that they were covered with!!!

Very pretty, I want to make similar Tim's office by covering box files.

Dear Floss
Beautiful box!
I just had to pop by to say how your comment on Thrifty Mrs about wanting to be different struck a chord with me! I was delighted to read someone else describing the need to be different from the crowd. When I was younger I was often described by other teenage girls as being "rare" which basically means I was weird because I had no desire to dress like/listen to/ behave like everyone else !
Long live the "rare" ones - may we prosper in all our wonderful unique authenticity!!!
Happy days to you

PS: Just re-read this comment and I know it sounds strange, but I think you will "get it" !!

What a pretty box! If only I could click my fingers and visit that shop, I'm sure I would be in heaven xo

Hi Floss...so glad that Blogger is behaving now and I can finally leave a comment here...

Your fabric covered box is a really pretty one. (I am 99% sure that these boxes all originate from France - some of mine have tiny French labels on them too)

Thanks for linking to my story about Dinan - perhaps the owner of the shop could help you in your research - she was very knowledgable and friendly (and spoke very good English!)
