Brittany Blues

These aren't the sad Blues...These are the refreshing,
mysterious,
invigorating,
manmade
as well as natural
blues...
...of our week's holiday in Brittany, northern France.
The blues of nature and the sea are reflected in a love of blue on land.
You can imagine I was happy!
We spent a week in a gite (holiday cottage - not pictured!) with Ben's parents.
We enjoyed the sea and the river,
prehistory and history,
cider, galettes and and crepes.
The blue hydrangeas (different soil to down here, sigh...) are used in the colourful house numbers.
The blue of the sea inspires the others...

Incidental details on the houses are usually blue.
And windows and shutters are very nearly obliged to be blue!
Over time,
transport also seems to have been traditionally...
...blue!
I'll leave you with some beautiful blue windows...

... and I'll tell you more tomorrow!

What a charming region! Thank you for sharing all these blues! I bet that you've brought back from your holiday a suitcase of ideas for your house and crafts!
Or are you thinking to move there?!

Hello Floss
What a lovely post! I went to britanny about 4 years ago with Alan. So beautiful there, lots of blue (one of my favourite colours) and lots of hydrangeas which I also like. I really like the photo of the tatched cottage with the little blue window. The blue shutters look sp pretty on a house. Glad that you had a good holiday.
Take care

You have taken the very best of Brittany to show. Blues are such a wonderful colour here, and it is lovely to see shutters, doors, flowers, all looking so beautiful.

You like the soft blues, which are very pleasing to the eye. But for my paintings I use ultramarine blue with is a purple kind of blue, because it is an intense blue.
By the way, I prefer Bretagne, such a mysterious name.

Glad you all had a great holiday! I stayed in Brittany about 11 years ago, and loved it!! One place I remember visiting was a place called Pont Aven, it was gorgeous!!
As they say, 'Blue is the Colour'!! a lovely post, Floss!!

I wonder why everything seems to be "coincidentally" blue. Might it be because it is a "watery" town?

I love these pictures. One of the things I love about hydrangeas is that the acidity of the soil changes the colour of the blooms, I think that is neat! However I planted 2 blue hydrangeas in my garden 2 years ago and the are pink this year. Since I feared they were dead last year I am happy enough with this outcome.
